Somewhere in the middle of all this we took a break and Megan showed me how to water the morning glory vines around the cages and how to water the dahlias... This was a nice break and I also did a little dead heading of some roses!!!!

October 7...
Well first thing we are figuring how many rosemary plants we will need and are digging holes and marking everything off!!! We need 194 plants... we have 274 plants ready... but we only have dug one hole :) I love my life... hahah!!!! We spend a few hours digging and planting... we ended with about 30 plants in the ground... this is great and I have a feeling next week I will be doing more of this same thing!!! O the joys of my life :) :) :)
October 6...
Today was fun... we started with working on the rosemary and getting it raked out for tilling. Than Gracy and I had a workshop on the History and Design of Filoli... This was way interesting and we learned lots about the garden and why it is the way it is!!!! I have pictures and will show them with the house pictures this weekend!!!!
After that I went back and was helping with rosemary till we all went back to help with planting the charte... O how fun it is so balance and plant in a straight line:) :) :)

October 5...
Well first thing this morning we finished pulling out the rosemary and than Gracy, Kate and I went on a tour of the house!!! This was super neat and I will have lots of pictures to show you over the weekend!!!! Tom Rogers (Filoli Curator) gave us about a 2 hour tour... it was amazing and much more information than most people get in their half hour walk through with volunteers!!!! One of the things that stood out to me was that he kept saying Filoli was created from "miracle after miracle"... I liked that because it really shows that it was not easy to make and keep Filoli in such a great condition and with so many wonderful artifacts inside... its truly a piece of art!!!!!
In the afternoon we all went to work on the group project in area 3... we were planting wall flowers and it goes pretty slowly... I cant remember if I have told you what we do already but I will tell you again since we did it again!!!! To start we have already prepared the beds with forking and fertilizer and are now to the planting part!!!! We lay out boards so we are not walking directly on the soil and start in the middle so we work our way out... there are rose trees all throughout so you try not to touch them as they will suck you in and scratch you up!!!! We are planting in perfectly straight lines and have to use a ruler and string and they are only 10 inches apart so there are lots of them. Picture this... me balancing on a board trying to not get eaten by a rose bush and planting in straight lines... its really pretty comical if you think about it... I was also pretty sour after from all the squatting but I am told it gets easier and faster as we go... I hope they are right!!!
Thats all for this day... :) :) :)

October 4...
My first day in area 4 and I think it went pretty good!!!! David Lesser (area lead and like to go by Dave) and Megan Richards (area assistant) are the two in this area and I like them both so it should be a good two weeks!!!! I was taken on a tour by Dave around the area so I was familiar with the lingo and where everything is and than I was put to work!!!!
For the rest of the day we were pulling out Rosemary plants... this was fun but also hard work :) There is a 300 foot strip of 7 year old rosmary plants and we had to take them all out... We tried a couple different things to make it as easy as possible to get them out... but ended up using an old tractor and a rope!!! I would tie the rope around and Dave would back up the tractor till it came out and than he would pull up to the next one and we would do it over and over again... We didnt finish but got really close!!!!
That was basically all I did today so I might have more to talk about tomorrow!!!!

October 1...
Last day in area 3... it was a good day but I was also a little sad to be leaving the walled and woodland garden... They are beautiful and I love them... I wish I could spend more time in them!!!!
To start the day Gracy and I harvested all the grape varieties we chose the day before and labeled, alphabetized, and washed them!!! After that we helped label all the apples we will be using for a display later... Also part of the tradition!!!! This was way fun and I think it looked way good when we finished!!!! They had showed us a picture from last years display and ours was totally better :)
It was way fun to see everyone all excited or stressed over the Fall Festival and trying to get everything ready!!!! Tomorrow there will be apple, pear, and grape tasting, a pumpkin patch for kids, concerts, a clown and balloon artist, and lots more!!! I am planning on going to taking pictures tomorrow so I can show you how it all looks and what all is happening!!!!

September 30...
Ok so today was different than most days because we are doing prep for the Fall Festival!!! I blew the tennis court again and than with tradition Gacy and I got to taste all the grapes in the orchard and pick out the ones we thought were the best for the sampling on Saturday!!!! They were so good and I had not idea there were so many different kinds :) Some of them were way bad but others were like Welches grape juice!!!!
Later that day we were working on the group project again in the charte... I got to do planting!!!! This was way hard for me because I am balancing on a board, around a rose bush, trying to plant is state lines... hahaha... it was pretty entertaining!!!!!! It looked good when it was finished but I am way slow and need to work on getting faster :)

September 29...
Well I did the Garden House again and than I got to water and fertilize all the annual pots in our area!! This was fun and I wish I would have known what the fertilizer was... I got it from the greenhouse and it was bright blue!!
After that we had a workshop on trucks and golf carts... this was cool but no one really wants me to drive... they will let Gracy drive and I get to ride in the back!!!! Its really pretty funny :)
We also had another workshop right after on sharpening our hand pruners!!!! This was great because mine were terrible ... I had tried telling someone but they didnt see problem with them so I figured it was how I used them... But today in our workshop I found out it was not just me and that they really do actually stick as pruners... I got a different pair!!!!! With the workshop we learned how to take them apart and clean them and sharpen them... this was way cool and I felt cool because I know how to do all that now :)
In the afternoon for our group project we started prepping the charte for planting... this was fun but it was soooooo stinking hot that we were all just melting. To prep the beds we first put ouster shell down than had to root prune and fork the beds... after that we leveled them out and got ride of all the little chunks!!!!!
Funny story from today... a little girl to her mom "what are they doing... are they gardening??" mom to little girls "Yes" little girl again "Well its doesn't look like their having very much fun..." hahahah... I loved this!!!!
